FedEx Custom Critical Launches Temp-Assure Validated Air^SM
New Service Facilitates Regulatory Compliance for Temperature-Sensitive Air-Freight Shipments

AKRON, Ohio, Oct. 18, 2005 – FedEx Custom Critical, Inc., a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), now offers a validated solution for temperature-sensitive air-freight shipments with Temp-Assure Validated Air.

This shipping option conforms to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and features a validation master plan. It also includes standard operating procedures for shipping temperature-sensitive air freight—and facilitates compliance for customers regulated by organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Temp-Assure Validated Air is ideal for shipments traveling internationally or for shipments moving coast-to-coast across North America. It features recording devices to capture temperature readings within the air-cargo container, door-to-door shipment tracking and hard-copy temperature documentation. 

Exclusive-use vehicles are used for initial pickups and final deliveries—while FedEx Express handles the airlift. 

Temp-Assure Validated Air was developed after extensive testing of temperature-controlled air-freight containers, along with thermal mapping FedEx Express aircraft. The result is a validated process that provides a compliant audit trail and satisfies the demands placed on customers’ global supply chains. 

“Our testing proved that air-cargo containers perform optimally when a consistent temperature environment is maintained around the container. As a result, we regulate the ambient temperature from pickup to delivery on every Temp-Assure Validated Air shipment,” said Tammy Robertson, FedEx Custom Critical White Glove Services® manager. “We monitor the container’s temperature display unit throughout the shipment and also provide the customer with documentation of the container’s internal temperature.” 

Temp-Assure Validated Air is the new addition to the Temp-Assure® suite of services. FedEx Custom Critical also offers temperature-control ground services with Temp-Assure and Temp-Assure Validated. Temp-Assure Air service provides an air-freight option for sensitive shipments.
